Attorney claims Uvalde ex-chief's indictment unfair, blames flawed protocols
UVALDE, Texas - A day after former Uvalde CISD Police Chief Pete Arredondo gave an exclusive interview to CNN, his attorney, Paul Looney, held a news conference expressing his concerns about the criminal indictment against his client.
Looney, a Houston-based attorney, argued that the indictment is unjust, claiming that the protocols first responders followed on the day of the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School were fundamentally flawed, ultimately failing the 21 victims. He stated that the decisions made during the incident were based on inadequate information, further complicating an already chaotic situation.
According to Looney, Arredondo entered the school without a bulletproof vest, believing that Room 111 was empty. This belief led first responders to prioritize evacuating other children, unaware that the shooter and additional victims were still inside the classroom.
The next court appearance for both Arredondo and the other indicted officer, Adrian Gonzalez, is scheduled for September 16th. A trial date has not yet been set.
