Little People, Big World star Audrey Roloff is pre-tanning before going on vacation (which is wise as redheads tend to burn easily). Roloff, 31, shared a picture of herself posing in a blue and white bikini, her curly hair blown out into sleek waves. "Thank goodness for the pre vacation spray tan," she wrote on the post. How does she stay so fit? Roloff enjoys going for long runs in the countryside. "You burn more calories from running and walking than from a lot of the other exercise programs that you can work in," says Katie Schultes, MD. "It shows that it decreases your risk of cardiovascular disease, I think by about 45 percent. Running also increases your HDL, which is one of your good cholesterols."
Roloff grew up taking skiing trips, an activity she now enjoys with the whole family. "One ski vacation with my family and [husband Jeremy] decided to make the switch since literally all of my family skis and he wasn't going to the mountain with anyone else," she says. "He will now admit that he is a happy convert. Especially with teaching the kids, it's sooo much easier."
Roloff enjoys camping trips with her family which are beneficial for both mental and physical health. "The fitness benefits of camping are well documented," says Christina Pay, Extension Assistant Professor at Utah State University. "Research suggests that physical activity in the outdoors and feelings of connection to nature enhance psychological health and well-being."
Roloff loves wake surfing at the lake. "Wakesurfing is an excellent form of cardio exercise," says Krish Tangella, MD, MBA, FCAP. "The constant movement and resistance of the water helps to strengthen the heart and improve overall cardiovascular health."
Roloff picks wild blackberries with her family. "A cup of raw blackberries is estimated to have 30.2 milligrams of vitamin C, which is half of the daily recommended value," says Saber Healthcare Group. "This makes blackberries a great way to meet your daily recommended vitamin C goals."
