Hes going to leave Dak Prescotts indirect warning to Jerry Jones about contract dead
After CeeDee Lamb got his extension, all eyes are now on Dak Prescott. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback is entering the final year of his contract, signed back in 2021.
Prescott has a cap hit of $60 million in 2025 and can earn up to $65 million according to senior ESPN analyst Mina Kimes. It all depends on the whims of owner Jerry Jones and if Lamb’s extension saga is anything to go by, then Prescott is in for the long haul.
However, unlike Lamb whom the Cowboys could have easily tagged, Prescott doesn’t have a franchise tag clause in his current contract. Furthermore, they can’t trade or release him before March 12. So, the only course of action for the 3 times Pro Bowler will be to enter free agency and wait for a team to make him the highest-paid player ever.
Dak Prescott said he doesn’t have to have a new contract before the season starts, but “I think it says a lot if it is or if it isn’t.”
What does it say if it isn’t done?

— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 29, 2024After Thursday’s practice, Prescott revealed he stopped listening to Jones a long time ago. When asked what it means if he doesn’t get a new deal before the deadline, Prescott had a blunt reply.
Just how people feel.Prescott replied.
Jones on the other hand has backed Prescott to stick around beyond the 2024 season even though a section of the Cowboys fans would prefer to see the back of him. The veteran may be a top regular-season quarterback but it’s the playoffs where he struggles the most with just 2 wins and has a record of 28-34 against .500 teams since he became the starter in 2016.
Despite the poor record, Prescott has all the leverage in his hands but he has never for once come right out and demanded money from Jones. Rather, he prefers to win games and perhaps the Super Bowl. However, if there’s no offer by the contract deadline then he wouldn’t think twice to leave.
He's going to leave and it's back to the QB abyss that we had before Romo

— reid gunter (@gungun210) August 29, 2024Sounds like he’s done with this front office and I don’t blame him. Deserves way better

— Shoes&Sports (@Shoesnsports_) August 29, 2024Excited to see how dominant an Angry Dak Prescott can be this season.
Saddened by the fact that this will probably be his last year as a Dallas Cowboy (god I hope I’m wrong) https://t.co/ZTgFMfVdhg
— Andrew Campbell (@RealCampDrew) August 29, 2024Just in case people forgot how Dak played the last time he bet on himself (he also had 3 rushing TDs and a receiving TD FWIW): https://t.co/PUPMdIjOGT pic.twitter.com/DVL2IyZfev
— Florida-Ish Man (@agangssn21) August 29, 2024“Sign me by Sept. 7 or I’m asking for the yacht in March.” https://t.co/Gq38UQPz46
— David Helman (@davidhelman_) August 29, 2024If I’m Dak, I’m going to JJ and demanding a trade to the raiders. And telling him to use that same lame excuse he used when he traded Amari. This is bigger than football; it’s about his family’s financial security. He’s an Alex smith injury away from never playing (God forbid). https://t.co/ZOo0l3iJgy
— Shannon Sharpe (@j_sha67568) August 29, 2024Duh. We feel like we need to win in Jan and not see you patting the ball and turning it over.
Thats why you’re not paid.
Earn it. No. You haven’t earned it in my mind.
And you know not in his mind and why you said , “How people feel.” https://t.co/VzoMPEwrtv
— A.J. Olivarez (@AJolivarezzz) August 29, 202488 is gonna be livid when he realizes he's stuck for 4 years in Dallas without someone throwing him the damn ball. https://t.co/z7IfuCp4Bn
— 🕷 Witch Please 🕸 (@AnnGwish) August 30, 2024We’re about to be back in QB hell again like before Romo https://t.co/3d80FrGOQl pic.twitter.com/eM6uYqmoOn
— (•_•) (@ThisNotCom) August 29, 2024Football is a results business and if Dak Prescott manages to produce the results, then consensus would be in his favor. Jones then has to give an extension even if it’s north of $60 million. The Cowboys kickoff their campaign against the Cleveland Browns, a game that will be called by seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady.
