How old is Mario?

With the new movie on the horizon, people can’t help but beg the question, “How old is Mario anyway?” With the Italian Plumber’s first appearance in the the game Donkey Kong back in 1981, you’d think he was over 50 years old but with multiple sources saying different things, here’s the actual age of Mario.

Nintendo’s most popular mascot in red has been a fan favorite for a very long time. He has been seen in multiple different games and has also become an icon in the 2-D platformer space. So much so that you can simply say “Mario” and people will instantly imagine a 2-D platformer with obstacles in the way.

The Mario franchise is way bigger than you could fathom at the moment. With the plumber appearing in over 200 video games alone, there is a vast space that his red and blue empire occupies.

Coming down to the question – How old is Mario? Well, in an interview back in 2005, Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario’s creator, talked about Mario’s age and revealed that he was designed to be 24-25 years old.

Aside from that, Nintendo has also actually put up Mario’s age on his Super Smash Bros. Melee trophy where it has been specified to be 26 years old which lies in the same region that Miyamoto presented him back in 2005.

In the latest movie, “The Super Mario Bros.” where the plumber is voiced by none other than Chris Pratt, it seems that the movie provides an origin story for Mario and how he grew his plumbing business along with Luigi.

How old is Mario according to the movie?

In the movie, Mario starts his plumbing business with his brother, Luigi, where they both try and work really hard and after their first day of work, return home to their parents throwing taunts at them left and right.

A relative is also said to have made fun of their new commercial where the two brothers were rapping while trying to seemingly communicate to a younger audience who would like to take their services.

Mario’s reaction to this also suggests that in the movie, he is just a teenager or is just out of his teenage years. Upon hearing all the taunts, he is seen stomping away from the dinner table back into his room to play video games. Not the kind of reaction you’d expect from a 25 year old.
