Sharyl Attkisson explores 'Long COVID' effects and treatment research in town hall
WASHINGTON (TND) — Five-time Emmy Award winning journalist Sharyl Attkisson hosted a town hall Tuesday about the long-term impacts of the coronavirus, the coronavirus vaccines and ongoing efforts to treat patients facing medical complications related to the coronavirus.
Attkisson was joined by several medical experts who have devoted significant time and resources to researching the long-term impacts of coronavirus and its vaccines, including Dr. Pierre Kory of the "Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance," Dr.Patrick Whelan of UCLA Health and Dr. Jordan Vaughn, who runs a "Long COVID Clinic" in Alabama.
One patient of Vaughn's featured during the town hall, Vandiver Chaplain, sought help after getting vaccinated. Chaplain complained of blurred vision and dizziness.
Scans came back showing abnormal blood clotting.
"I treated him as if he had something I wasn't able to totally see, which would be smaller vascular issues and his symptoms significantly improved. That really pushed me off on a journey to say 'what is really going on here," Vaughn explained.Other patients experiencing a wide range of after effects from the coronavirus or vaccines, or both, were also seen by Vaughn.
"I felt like I had risen from the dead. I got my voice back. I could walk. I could do things," said Hannah Bourgeois, another patient of Dr. Vaughn who was vaccinated and also had the coronavirus.
Dr. Patrick Whelan said during the town hall discussion he was disappointed with the lack of effort to track adverse effects of COVID-19 vaccines, and detailed efforts by a group of experts to try and make up for that.
Dr. Pierre Kory, the founder of the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance, told Attkisson pressure from pharmaceutical giants made it difficult to promote the use of existing drugs to treat COVID-19.
"It was always decided, even before this broke out, that what was required was a global vaccination campaign to end this pandemic," said Dr. Kory.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) defines Long COVID as "the health problems that some people experience within a few months of a COVID-19 diagnosis," and notes the condition can trigger other health issues, such as diabetes and kidney disease.
The town hall coincides with the launch of the ninth season of Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson, the 30-minute, weekly investigative news program airing on Sinclair television stations nationwide on Sunday mornings. Check your local listings to find where Full Measure airs in your area.
