Two prescribed fires planned near Idaho City from April 30 to May 2
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — According to a recent news release, Boise National Forest fire managers expect to conduct two prescribed fires in Idaho City's vicinity from April 30 through May 2. Specific dates will depend on weather and vegetation and are subject to change.
These prescribed fires are part of the Forest Service's Wildfire Crisis Strategy to reduce the risk of future catastrophic wildfires to nearby communities and natural resources.
Mores South, 173 acres:
- The first burn will be four miles east of Idaho City along Forest Road 327 (Rabbit Creek Road) and will last one to two days of burning with five to seven days of post-fire monitoring. The burn will impact potential smoke in Idaho City, Highway 21 and the Granite Creek Recreation Site.
Avelene, 250 acres:
- The other brun will take place eight miles southwest of Idaho City near the Grimes Creek and Clear Creek intersection on May 1 and will last one to two days of burning with five to seven days of post-fire monitoring. The burn will impact potential smoke to the Clear Creek community and the Highway 21 corridor between Boise and Idaho City.
Prescribed fires are conducted during wind conditions favorable for dispersing smoke from the local area, but smoke impacts may still be seen and felt for several days after a burn.
Be aware of firefighters and equipment on roadways, comply with posted notices and drive cautiously in areas with decreased visibility.
